Bell Schedule Simulator 2.0

Thank you for helping our district by testing different potential bell schedules for the 2018-2019 school year and submitting your ideas.

The district must make changes to the 2018-2019 bell schedule for a number of reasons. Many students are unavoidably late to school, costing them valuable instructional time, because the current arrival and dismissal schedule does not allow buses enough time to run their routes. There is also a financial concern because the district spends more than $2 million to hire additional drivers to meet the current school schedule. Please try out and submit possible solutions to these challenges in the Bell Schedule Simulator below.

Our goal is to provide at least one hour of time between the bell for one school type and the bell for the next school type.

So, if high schools start at 7:00, elementary schools would start at 8:00 or later, and middle schools at 9:00 or later. The same one-hour gap applies for the bells at the end of the school day. In the past, high schools have started and ended earliest, then elementary schools, and finally middle schools – but you may choose a different order. Times for magnet schools, K-8 schools and exceptional centers should match either middle or high school times.

To use this simulator:

  • Select a start and end time for a school type. The simulator will automatically take away time needed for lunches and class changes, calculate the minutes of in-class instructional time, and display that below the bell time selectors.
*Early release times are automatically selected based on the selected end time.
  • If the bell times do not meet the required annual minimum instructional time, the information will be displayed in red. You must adjust the start or end time to allow for more instructional time during the day. The information will change to green once the required length of time has been met.
  • You must select times for Elementary, Middle and High schools in order to submit your suggestion.
  • Once you have selected times you would like to submit, make sure the bell times are at least one hour apart for each school type, then click the "Submit Suggestions" button at the bottom of the page.
